Andrea Maurer

The visual artist, performer, and choreographer Andrea Maurer lives and works in Vienna. In her artistic work – from performance, installation, and videos to animation, sculpture, and text – she deals with language, reality, and perception. Maurer employs language as a material, which she often deconstructs, transforms, and recombines. The result is expansive spatial assemblages or letter objects, but also poetic miniatures and performances. 

The artist’s design Buchstabentheater (Alphabet Theatre) was chosen to be one of the permanent sculptures in Altoona Park following a lengthy, polyphonic selection process with Public Art Lower Austria (KOERNOE) and with the participation and contribution of children from the Kunstideenwerkstatt (art ideas workshop) and the Children’s Advisory Board. In her co-creation workshops, Andrea Maurer continues to explore and enhance the installation together with the children.
