Mission
In times of radical transformation, the concerns and needs of the younger generation are changing. The KinderKunstLabor responds to these processes with an artistic space that otherwise does not exist in such a specific form. In a direct dialogue with artists and the world of art – visual arts, multimedia, installations, design, and architecture – children can critically engage with the themes and programme of the institution. Hence, children do not just visit the house, they play an active role in its design and approach. Here they can feel connected to art and culture and become true cultural citizens. Their perspectives are the basis and tools of art mediation for all: experimental, intergenerational, cross-institutional. New communities emerge – globally, regionally, and locally. Such a collective experience of art contributes to social cohesion and offers a place for new modes of thinking.
Together with the children, the building is conceived as an exhibition space, laboratory, and field of experimentation, as an inspiring space to play, and as a meeting place and event venue. In this sense, the KinderKunstLabor is a “third space” and a non-commercial, public forum. Artists and children collectively develop experimental toolkits and setups as a departure point for visitors to pursue their interests and abilities. The worlds of children and adults permeate one another, and different social realms converge.
