dream.lab for Schools

Where do people dream? What sense of time do they have in their dreams? What does daydreaming mean? Can people dream together? And what will dreams look like in the future? Participants exchange their own ideas and stories about dreams. Afterwards, dreams can be painted on pillowcases, carved into scented soaps, or blown into the sky as soap bubbles.

For the dream.lab exhibition, artist Rivane Neuenschwander has selected the book Mari hi—The Tree of Dreams by author Hanna Limulja, a Yanomami myth for children. This and other works, by authors such as Hans Magnus Enzensberger, Hannah Höch, Mira Lobe, Pam Muñoz Ryan, or Michael Roher, explore the literary world of dreaming. Drawing on Surrealistic techniques, such as the Cadavre Exquis, drawing, writing, and designing are emphasized.
You might even create a book of your own on dreaming.

From dream to material: here sand, earth, pigments, parts of plants, or clay form the basis of the artistic work. Because we make paint ourselves—using natural and regional materials. The glass muller moves in circles over the mirror. Bright red, brown, or yellow emerge from underneath. How liquid should the paint be? And how does it smell? Where can the paint be applied? Paper mounted on wood invites you to paint.
