Philip Taaffe
Philip Taaffe is an American painter known for his complex, multi-layered works that combine abstract and figurative elements. His visual language incorporates a wide range of techniques such as screen printing, collage, painting, and drawing, and is inspired by historical art forms, cultural symbols, and ornamental patterns that reference an expansive array of sources from Islamic art and ancient mosaics to botanical illustrations and minimalism.
Taaffe's works have been exhibited internationally, and are part of major collections worldwide, including at the Museum of Modern Art in New York, the Centre Pompidou in Paris, and the Venice Biennale, among others.
His work Lupinus Culcidae (1996) can be seen in the exhibition Paper, Rock, Scissors - Materials and Tools of Art (2025).
