Nilbar Güreş

Nilbar Güreş is a renowned contemporary artist who works with a variety of art forms including painting, photography, performance, and video. Her works are deeply concerned with identity issues, gender roles, feminist themes, and the representation of queer life realities, reflecting her dual cultural roots in Turkey and Austria.

Characterized by a playful, subversive approach, Güreş’s works combine humor and poetry. She uses everyday objects, performative gestures, and visual metaphors to question complex social structures and create alternative narratives. She is especially known for her series such as TrabZONE (2010) and Unknown Sports (2009), which artistically deconstruct patriarchal and social norms. 

Her work Picknick im Dunklen (2013) is on view in the exhibition Paper, Rock, Scissors - Materials and Tools of Art (2025).
