Lois Weinberger (1947–2020) was an Austrian artist who gained prominence as a pioneer of ecologically oriented art. His works, situated between conceptual art, sculpture, and landscape design, dealt extensively with the relationship between humans and nature, and in particular with the role of plants in cultural and ecological contexts.

Weinberger’s works often focused on seemingly inconspicuous vegetation, such as weeds, thus posing questions about order, boundaries, and social norms. His well-known installation project, Das über Pflanzen / Ist eins mit ihnen (1997), featured wild plants growing along a railway line at documenta X in Kassel.
Lois Weinberger has left behind a multi-faceted body of work uniting art and ecology in lasting ways.

His work Verlauf (1999) is on view in the exhibition Rock, Paper, Scissors - Materials and Tools of Art (2025).
