Jimmie Durham
Jimmie Durham (1940–2021) was a visual artist, poet, performer, and political activist in the American Indian Movement. In his sculptures, assemblages, drawings, texts, and installations, he tackled the relationship between different cultures and societies to nature as well as the destruction caused by a lack of understanding, while always aiming to critically reflect on his own position.
Durham's The Vitrine of Childish Delights (2021) was on display in the exhibition Species of Spaces and Other Pieces (2023) and has found a new home in the KinderKunstLabor as a permanent loan from the evn collection.
The artist’s precise formal language playfully inspires thoughts about the meaning of art and its exhibition in society – questions and thoughts that are and must be discussed time and again in the KinderKunstLabor.
