Twin sisters Christine and Irene Hohenbüchler have been working together as an artist duo since 1990. Trained in sculpture and painting, they often collaborate with disadvantaged and marginalised social groups and visualise their concerns and ideas through installations, sculptures, paintings, and digital art. The foundation of their collective work is what they refer to as “multiple authorship.”

Based on drawings and the children’s ideas for the design of Altoona Park, the artists spent several months designing a cavernous sculpture that also resembles an animal of sorts. Over the course of a many month selection process, 75 children between the ages of five and 13 worked together with Public Art Lower Austria (KOERNOE) and selected this artwork for the park. The sculpture offers playful views inside and out, hiding places, and protection. The name CO:CO was coined by children from the Kunstideenwerkstatt (art ideas workshop).
